Model of visual texture discrimination using weak operators and spatial averaging.
Lovell, Robb | Uttal, William R | Shepherd, Thomas | Dayanand, Sriram
Pattern Recognition. Vol. 25, no. 10, pp. 1157-1170. 1992

A model of texture segmentation is presented based on the combination of the outputs of six weak texture operators. The combination procedure is a simple statistic in which the center of gravity of the set of suggested boundaries produced by the six operators is computed. The model is effective both as a procedure for texture segmentation and as a model of an important human visual process. The need for heuristic rules suggests that top-down processing may be a general requirement for any theory of human vision.
